Definition

What is a dental implant?

“Dental implants can be used both to rehabilitate a full arch and to replace a single tooth.”

A dental implant is an artificial root of biocompatible titanium surgically placed into the jaw or maxilla bone to replace the root of a missing tooth. Once integrated with the bone (osseointegration), it serves as a solid base to support a crown, bridge or denture that restores your smile's function and aesthetics.

Dr. Giammarco Perrone is a specialist in implantology, combining soft-tissue management — such as gum grafts — with precision implant placement. Implants are always placed with the future prosthesis in mind, allowing careful initial planning and predictable outcomes.

Bone grafts

Complex bone regeneration in the aesthetic zone

When bone volume is insufficient for a well-placed implant, we use GBR and bone grafts — sometimes in stages — and shape the gum so the crown does not reveal the reconstruction.

Common defects

Thin socket walls after extraction, horizontal resorption in the smile line, past infection or misangled implants needing prosthetic repositioning.

Technique and materials

GBR with membrane, evidence-based biomaterials and autogenous graft when stability matters; guided surgery when it improves accuracy.

Aesthetics integrated

Sculpted provisional, gum graft if the phenotype is thin, zirconia crowns with natural emergence.

Fixed quote, no surprises

We know that cost is one of the biggest concerns before starting. The price of an implant isn't just about the material: it depends on the diagnosis, the condition of bone and gum, the planning and the experience of the surgeon performing the procedure.

At Clínica Perrone you receive a detailed, fixed quote from your very first visit — including everything you need: 3D CT scan, surgery, final crown and follow-ups during treatment. We also offer flexible financing up to 24 months, interest-free and with no opening fees.

Frequently asked questions

Science backs every answer

Does placing an implant hurt?+

The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia, so you won't feel pain during the procedure. Post-op discomfort varies between patients; in most cases it is mild and controlled with standard analgesics.

📖 Khouly et al. 2021

Can the body reject the implant?+

Dental implants, made of titanium or zirconia, don't suffer immune rejection. If an implant doesn't integrate properly with the bone (fibrointegration), it can be re-placed with another surgery.

📖 Buser et al. 2012

Will I see dark areas around the implant?+

Zirconia crowns avoid dark shadows on the gum and achieve a more natural look.

📖 Hansen et al. 2018

How long does a dental implant last?+

With good care they can last decades. Studies show survival rates above 95% at 20 years.

📖 Frisch E. et al. 2018

What if I don't have enough bone?+

Advanced techniques like guided bone regeneration (GBR) significantly increase success rates in cases with bone deficiency.

📖 Jung RE et al. 2021

Can I get an implant with diabetes or hypertension?+

Yes. If these conditions are controlled, success rates are comparable to healthy patients.

📖 Eskow et al. 2016

What are the risks of a dental implant?+

Without proper maintenance, complications like peri-implantitis or technical issues can arise, affecting up to 42% of patients over 9 years. Regular check-ups are key.

📖 Karlsson K. et al. 2018

What aftercare is needed?+

Strict oral hygiene and regular check-ups are essential to prevent peri-implantitis. A water flosser will be your best ally.

Oral rehabilitation

Full-arch implants

When many teeth are missing —or all of them— the aim is not “to place screws”. It is stable chewing, quiet aesthetics and a prosthesis you can keep clean for years.

Full-arch rehabilitation on dental implants

Indication

Who it may suit

  • Several missing teeth or a full arch
  • A removable denture that no longer holds or that you no longer tolerate
  • Remaining teeth with a poor prognosis after periodontal assessment
  • A wish for a fixed solution planned on biological grounds

When it is wiser to wait or choose another path

If periodontitis or active infection is present, we stabilise tissues first. If bone or general health do not allow a safe protocol, we say so clearly and discuss alternatives.

Method

How we approach it

01

Diagnosis

History, examination, CBCT 3D when useful, and photos. Bone, gum and bite before talking implant numbers.

02

Written plan

Implant number, possible regeneration, prosthesis type, timeline and a closed quote by phases.

03

Surgery and prosthesis

Placement with digital planning when indicated. Provisional when appropriate; definitive when tissues allow.

04

Maintenance

A fixed arch needs hygiene and reviews. Without maintenance, peri-implantitis risk rises.

3D study before rehabilitationGuided implant surgeryHigh-evidence implant system

Comfort

Pain and recovery

We operate under appropriate local anaesthesia and, when indicated, conscious sedation. We do not promise “zero discomfort”; we promise clear information, medication and close follow-up in the first days.

Materials

Quality without theatre

We choose implant systems and prosthetic components with published clinical support. When we indicate Straumann® or other high-end options, we justify them in your plan.

Transparency

Honest fees

After assessment you receive a closed quote: what is included and what would fall outside if an unforeseen need arises. Financing subject to lender terms.

FAQ

Full arch: what people ask before deciding

Is this the same as “All-on-4”?+

All-on-4® is a specific protocol/brand. We plan the number of implants after 3D study. Sometimes four; sometimes another design is safer.

Is full-arch surgery painful?+

It is done under local anaesthesia (and sedation when indicated). Post-op discomfort is usually manageable with medication and varies by case.

Will I leave with teeth the same day?+

In selected cases a provisional is possible. Not always: it depends on implant stability, bite and soft tissues.

Which materials do you use?+

High-evidence implant systems (including Straumann® when indicated) and digitally planned prostheses. The quote lists brand and inclusions.

How much does a full arch cost?+

It depends on implants, regeneration and prosthesis type. After assessment you get a phased plan with a closed quote.
